  • The photobook PARIS IMPASSE by Karin Borghouts was nominated for the LUMA RENCONTRES DUMMY AWARD 2019 in Arles, France. PARIS IMPASSE is exhibited from 1 July until 29 September 2019, along with the 17 other nominees, at the 50th Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles. This year there were 146 entries from 36 countries. The winner was the book ‘Poverty Line’ by Chow en Lin. Info.

Paris has more than 600 ‘impasses’: streets that come to a dead end. And that is without counting the hundreds of cités, villas and squares. Within the Périphérique, Paris is the most densely populated city in Europe, with more than 20,000 inhabitants per square kilometre. This book depicts about 230 impasses or cul-de-sacs from the 1st to the 20th arrondissement for the first time. The photographs offer a glimpse of part of Paris that usually goes unnoticed. The photographs are taken from 2011 to 2018. Most of them during an artist-in-residence period in fall 2015, thanks to the Flemish Government.
The intention is now to publish the book and hold an exhibition, ideally in Paris of course. We are on the lookout for sponsors and contacts!
