The house. Haunting pictures of an old and worn interior destroyed by fire. Photos are the means Karin Borghouts uses in order to extract delicacy from strong emotions such as fright, confusion and pity, conveyed by the black ashy chaos. Thus The House turns more subtle than the sight of material remains. Thus photography turns more subtle than being just a way of registering. This hints at the essence of what art does to things. In this exhibition the Villa De Olmen and The House, dating more or less from the same period, become connected by a peaceful contrast between remaining and disappearing. (DV)
