Museum to scale Brussels, Florida, Rotterdam

2012-2014

  • Site Minimuseum Klaar 3083
  • Museum to scale features more of hundred exhibition rooms at a scale of 1/7. The exhibition gives an overview of Belgian art from the 20th and 21st centuries. 101 Belgian artists display their work in miniature rooms measuring 100 x 65 x 60 cm. Among the participating artists are Jan Fabre, Jan De Cock, Pierre Alechinsky, Koen Vanmechelen, Wim Delvoye, Luc Deleu, Luc Tuymans, and many more. Following the postmodern tradition the museum is subject and object at the same time. An interactive website will be launched in which the visitor himself becomes a museum’s curator. In addition a large catalogue is published.
Museum to scale 1/7 is curated by Belgian galerist Ronny Van de Velde in an exhibition scenography of visual artist Wesley Meuris.

‘Room of perception’ designed by Karin Borghouts is a 3D-construction of the effect of a 35mm lense with a ‘trompe-l’oeil’ on the backside. The photos in this museum to scale are taken into museums and zoos and are depicting the theme of showing or not showing.
Museum to scale was on view fall 2013 in the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Brussels (BE), in 2014 in the Baker Museum in Naples/ Florida (USA) and Kunsthal Rotterdam (NL). Museum on Scale is on view at the Ghisla Art Foundation in Locarno from March 19 until November 19, 2017.
