Museum De Lakenhal Leiden

2016-2019

Between 2016 and 2019, Karin Borghouts followed the rebuilding process at Museum De Lakenhal in Leiden (NL) with her camera. She strolled through the museum on countless occasions, seeking out powerful images of moments of demolition, rediscovered historical details and the building chaos, as well as more unassuming details. These still lifes ofthe empty museum spaces undergoing renovation are displayed here as witness to a past phase: the museum in transition.
This is one of the 10 art assigments artists received from Museum The Lakenhal at the occasion of the renovation.
The construction of the new museum part is realized by HappelCornelisseVerhoeven Architecten. The museum has closed its doors
in October 2016 and the Dutch King reopened it on 19 June 20, 2019. The work of Karin Borghouts is exhibited in the new exhibitionhall of the museum and published in the new museumbook.
