Ghent Vooruit 100

2012-2013

Vooruit Arts Center is a historic complex in the Belgian city of Ghent, Belgium. Vooruit was originally the festival and art center of the Ghent labor movement, with a ballroom, cinema, theater, etc. It is now mainly used for concerts and other cultural events. Vooruit celibrates 100 year in 2013 and ordered Karin Borghouts in 2012 to photograph the building and the interiors during one year.
STAM, the Ghent City Museum showed a large historical exhibition about Vooruit 100 and 6 photographs of Karin Borghouts were exhibited there in a relationship to some photographs of Reiner Lautwein made in 1989 (curator Dr. Liesbet Nys). In the building of Vooruit 3 large photographs of Karin are permanently exhibited in the dance studio (not during activities). About 25 photographs are published in the book ‘Vooruit Gent 1913-2013’ by Dr. Liesbet Nys, published by Hannibal.
