2020

Coda is a palliative center in Wuustwezel, Belgium designed by noAarchitecten. Started in 2013 as a Pilot Project Care by the Flemish Government Architect, it took years to realize. This hospital ward was housed in a former monastery building on the same site. Visiting here helped the architects better understand what architecture, for residents and caregivers in this special landscape, can mean. In their last weeks and days, regardless of the season, people long to be outside, to feel the wind, to smell the rain and to hear the birds. This had a great influence on the design. Each resident has a back door and a terrace, the bed is rolled out, the sloping roof provides shelter.
