Bruges - Kantje boord

2014

A commissioned assignment of Museum Bruges. Lace in past and present through the lens of Karin Borghouts Snapshot is a series of photography exhibitions around Bruges intangible cultural heritage. In Snapshot 9 photographer Karin Borghouts unites various aspects of the rich tradition of lace. A refined craft into a tourism product, from handicrafts to computer-controlled production, from decoration to an art form. The boundary between real or not real, handmade or industrial, art and kitsch is sometimes difficult to draw clear. The exhibition shows the representation of lace like this can be seen in museums, paintings, reproductions, etc.
