Bindingen

2013

Portraits and stories of foreign people living in Antwerp BE. ‘Bindingen’ is a project of some teachers of Stedelijk Centrum voor Volwassenenonderwijs Sité, Antwerpen (BE) and a groupwork. Karin Borghouts photographed the people learning Dutch. They were asked to bring an object from their homeland.. Book and exhibition February 8 > March 16, 2013

Antwerp is a melting pot of different cultures. One can see a lot of colours and hear many stories in the streets of Antwerp. But do we know the people we meet in the street? What did they leave behind, what did they bring along? Whatever their reason to come here, the link with their country of origin remains. VZW Cité, the City Centre for Adult Education was curious about those links. An object looked like a good starting point, a way of getting to know somebody who speaks another language, creating a parcours with objects and pictures throughout the city, at co Nova, FoMu, MoMu, Permeke, Atlas and BNP-Paribas Antwerp.
The book ‘Bindingen’ is published with the support of the City of Antwerp and others. ISBN 978 90 902 7345 7
