    Book Zoo beeldig (Dutch)
Sculptures and buildings in ZOO Antwerpen, BE
The Antwerp zoo is the oldest animal park in the country, and one of the oldest in the world, established on 21 July 1843. On January 1, 1983, the entire park (architecture and garden) was listed as a monument.
The book ‘Zoo beeldig’ is a visual and written exploration through the Antwerp zoo. Artist Karin Borghouts photographs places where we usually negligent to overlook. The eye of the camera looks at the Zoo in a fresh, enchanting and mysterious way. The guides who accompany the reader are Antoon Van Ruyssevelt and Fernand Schrevens. The walk is opened with the poem “zoo mensch zoo dier” of former Antwerp city poet Ramsey Nasr and finishes with a little history of the Antwerp Zoo of honorary librarian of the Zoo, Fernand Schrevens. Nasr writes poetry and raps, Schrevens tells a story. The book shows also historical black and white photographs (archive Zoo Antwerp). Published on the occasion of the event ‘O Dierbaar Antwerpen’, 2007.
