Vincent was here in Nuenen

Vincent van Gogh stayed at Nuenen from December 1883 to November 1885. There he worked passionately on his studies of peasant life and laid the foundations for his future career in France. In Nuenen, where his father was a Protestant priest, there are still many places that remind us of his stay.

The brand new Van Gogh Village Museum was opened by Queen Máxima in May. It is a hands-on museum that tells the story of Van Gogh in Brabant. Vincent was here is the first temporary exhibition. Karin Borghouts followed Vincent's footsteps and photographed the places where he worked and lived, from Zundert to Auvers-sur-Oise. She also reconstructed and photographed many of his still lifes. Vincent was here is an exploration of the relationship between painting and photography.

Book Vincent was here

The Vincent was here photo book can be purchased on site or ordered online.

Karin Borghouts has her own very personal take on Van Gogh's work. In addition to a thorough knowledge of his work, she has visited the places where he lived and worked. It was there that she took the photographs that evoke Van Gogh's work, but whose original compositions and use of colour are also marked by a powerful style that is emphatically her own.
Sjraar van Heugten, art historian and curator. Formal director of the collections of the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam.
